Lovecraft has come a long way from its first small store that opened in Toronto in 1972. Throughout the years, Lovecraft has always tried to be a place where women and men could explore their sexuality in a fun and safe way.

Like many of the greatest discoveries, Lovecraft was born out of necessity and entrepreneurship. In 1971, two women found themselves in need of a way to support their families. Neither had formal business training yet, both were determined to start a business. Their original idea of distributing teaching aids for children with developmental disabilities fell through due to funding. However, while researching in England, one of the women discovered the phenomenon of European sex stores. Unlike the often dark, intimidating "head shops" that were scattered around the downtown core of Toronto, these European stores were clean, well lit, and had helpful, knowledgeable staff. Finding the concept intriguing, she returned to Canada and after searching for the right location, the two friends opened Lovecraft on Yorkville Avenue in Toronto. News coverage of this unique store spread fast across the country and a week after they opened, they were sold out to the bare walls. Thirty five years later, Lovecraft still has its reputation as being innovative and progressive, and has become an institution in Toronto. We are the oldest sex store in Canada and one of the oldest in North America. We're still owned by one of the original two women and so far, are showing no signs of slowing down.

Lovecraft in Yorkville
After enjoying 38 years of business in Yorkville, Lovecraft wishes to announce that we are closing our 27 Yorkville Ave. location on July 31, 2010. It is with a sad heart that we leave Yorkville but we want to let you know that we will continue to do business at our Mississauga location, and our website. We are in the process of looking for a new Toronto location and hope to announce shortly where that will be.
Lovecraft in Mississauga:
Mississauga is open Mon, Tue, Wed, 10-7, Thurs. 10-8, Fri 10-9, Sat 10-6, and Sun. 12-5.
Our street address is 2200 Dundas St. E. We are on the south side of Dundas, east of Dixie Ave. and west of highway 427.
Closest subway: Kipling, take the 112 West Mall Bus,bus stop West Mall Crescent. Walk across bridge. We are located in the same mall as the Muddy Duck Restaurant.
From the west:
Take either the 401 or the Queen Elizabeth Way(QEW) east to the 427. Exit at Dundas St. Proceed west just past the West Mall.
From the east:
Take either highway 401 or the Gardiner Expressway/QEW west to the 427. From the 401 go south to Dundas exit. From the QEW go north to Dundas exit. Proceed west just past the West Mall.
